Carlie Fisher, three years an Associate in the
Office of the President at Bethany, was on the Homecoming Court at
Bethany College. Her boyfriend, KC Lindley, was also on the Court.
KC's sister, Megan, is an Assistant in the President's Office and is a
cheerleader and member of the Stampede, Bethany's marching band.

of Bill Hoag and recognizing the Hoag Family for their amazing support
of Bethany College at Hoag Field Saturday.
Thirteenth Annual Allison's Run
Great turnout at the Cunningham Sports Complex for the 13th annual Bethany College Allison's Run in memory of Jim Allison ('62), long time Professor of Mathematics. Professor Allison passed away in 2000. Pictured with Judy Allison and Professor Kenn Morgan, the talented artist who designs the race shirts every year. Enjoyed running the race with Bethany cross country coach Mike Guinn.
Former Student-Athletes Receive Awards
With 2013 graduates Nick Wilcox and Jessica Zavatchen at the Hall of Fame Dinner Friday night. Nick, a four-year All-PAC and former PAC Player of the Year in basketball, and Jessica, four-time All-PAC and two-time Academic All-American, are pursuing further studies this year (Nick in nursing, Jessica Physical Therapy). Nick received the William Hanna Award and Jessica the Scholar Athlete Award at Friday's Dinner.

Basketball Team Anniversary
With Bison head basketball coach Andrew Sachs
and Joe Kurey ('62), then assistant coach and long-time former Bethany
administrator, at Friday's 50th Anniversary Celebration for the only
undefeated basketball team in BC history. Members of
the 1963-64 team in attendance included Bard Hickman, Charlie Cross,
Rev. Larry Deitch, Jim Uhrig, Jim O'Roark, John Simms, Phil Harrison, Ed
Kidd, Tom Lash, Rich Cipullo, Rev. Harry Bolen, Ed Blundon, and Howard
Hoffman. Joe spearheaded the planning for the event.

Diversity Week
Faculty, staff and students wore red in support of Diversity Week on campus.
Wednesday, Sept. 17, Annie and I had an enjoyable dinner with officers of the Bethany
Student Government Association and Student Activities Council at
Christman Manor. Alex Henry, Princess Serrano, Jared Roque, Jacob
Fischer (SGA President), Derek Brown, and Hannah McNerney, joined
David Black (Provost), Jerry Stebbins (Dean of Students), Lisa Reilly
(Goulding-Woolery Professor of Chemistry & SGA Advisor), and Sam
Goodge (Director of Student Activities).

PAC Kickoff
Brian Rose, Director of Athletics and
Recreation, and I joined PAC Commissioner Joe Onderko and our
counterparts at Geneva College for a special "coin toss" to commemorate
the start of the PAC football season Saturday night. The Bison dropped the
contest to the Golden Tornadoes.
Alumni Council
Five members of the Bethany College National Alumni
Council returned to campus over the weekend for a panel discussion "Giving Back to
Alma Mater." Pictured with Ashley Kanotz (left), Director of Parent and
Alumni Relations and me are: Craig Williams ('96) of Maryland; Margy Lang
('81) of Florida; Amy Callahan ('95) of North Carolina; Bruce Fahey ('77) of
Ohio; and J.P. Blaho ('94) of Massachusetts. Students from the
Undergraduate Alumni Association and Connections class attended the
panel.
Enjoyable breakfast at Christman Manor with the Bethany
College National Alumni Council. I had the pleasure of presenting Margy
Lang (’81) with recognition of her nine years as a member of the Council and
the declaration of her Director-Emeritus status. A former President of
the National Alumni Council, Margy has worked tirelessly to build the
organization and has hosted events for alumni and friends in Jacksonville,
Florida. A true Bethanian!

Faculty, Students Receive Awards at 2013 Fall Convocation
Dr. Harald Menz, Professor of World Languages and Cultures, Director of International Studies and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies, received a standing ovation in a packed Commencement Hall as he receives the John R. Taylor Award for the Liberal Arts. Provost David Black presents the award.
Dr. Menz also received the International Association of University Presidents Faculty Achievement Award at today's Fall Convocation.
Kathy Furbee, Chair/Professor of Social Work, accepts Bethany College's recognition on the 2013 President's Community Service Honor Roll at today's Fall Convocation. It is the second time in three years that Bethany has been recognized. Prof. Furbee spearheads the College's community service/service learning programs.
Sophomore Ann Taylor (Communications and Media Arts major) receives the prestigious Richard B. Kenny Award from Jerry Stebbins (Dean of Students) as the outstanding freshman for the 2012-13 academic year at today's Fall Convocation. Ann has a near perfect grade point average and is active in a wide variety of campus activities (including assistant in the president's office).
Phi Kappa Tau fraternity won the Woolery Cup (for outstanding academic performance) for the Spring 2013 Semester. It added to Harald Menz's special day. He serves as the Phi Tau advisor. Evan Marmie accepts the award for Phi Tau.
Alpha Xi Delta sorority won the Anna Ruth Bourne Award (for academic performance) for the Spring 2013 Semester. Shannon Marks accepts the award for the sorority from Dean of Students Jerry Stebbins.
