Father's Day at Bethany Beach with my girls -- daughters Katie and Ashlee, and granddaughter Addie.

Happy Father's Day to my wonderful father Dr. Rudolph "Rudy" Miller. A World War II veteran, former public school teacher/administrator and college professor at East Tennessee State University, University of Memphis, and Ohio University.

The leaders of West Virginia’s largest and oldest higher-educational institutions met June 11 at Bethany College for a discussion hosted by Bethany President Scott D. Miller.

West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee and Miller discussed West Virginia’s higher-education issues and possible collaboration between the two institutions. The two presidents have 56 years of combined service as leaders of eight colleges and universities.

Gee first held the presidential position at WVU from 1981-1985. He returned in January after serving at Ohio State University (twice 1990-98 and 2007-13), Vanderbilt University (2001-07), Brown University (1998-2000), and the University of Colorado (1985-90). In addition to serving Bethany since fall 2007, Miller has served as President of Wesley College (1997-2007) and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-97).

Bethany was founded in 1840, making it the oldest degree-granting institution in West Virginia, established before the state itself.
