On Saturday, Bethany College will host the 40th West Virginia State Math Field Day (WVSMFD), a statewide, individual competition for students in grades 4 through 12. The event is supported in part by the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics to inspire students’ interest in math. Students representing all 55 counties of West Virginia, assigned to eight different regions, will compete in various areas of our campus. Competitive exercises include a written test and mental computation for grades 4 through 9; for grades 10 through 12, the competition may include short-answer, a written exam, team questions, and relays. Winners can advance to other competitions.
Site contact for the event is Assistant Professor of Mathematics Adam Fletcher.
This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our campus and academic program to visiting students, faculty, family, and guests. I know you will join me in providing a warm Bethany welcome to all participants.
