Over the holidays I visited
Westminster-Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay, not far from campus. I had
the opportunity to learn more about one of Coastal Virginia's premier senior assisted
living facilities and the work of our students there. An impressive list
of Virginia Wesleyan alumni and friends also call WC home.
I
enjoyed meeting with Ben Unkle, President and CEO of Westminster-Canterbury.
We discussed collaborative opportunities and a current project, the
Birdsong/Virginia Wesleyan College/Eastern Virginia Medical
School/Westminster
Canterbury Dementia Research Project funded by VWC Emeritus Trustee
George
Birdsong and his wife, Sue. The 2015-16 edition of Marlin Magazine
includes
information about this research project in an article entitled
“Technology and
the Human Touch,” written by Leona Baker. I encourage you to read about
this exciting
project on page 51 of our magazine. Link to our magazine online at http://www.vwc.edu/news-a- events/marlin-magazine/2015/.
I look forward to future collaborations that will mutually benefit both
organizations vital to Coastal Virginia.
