Last week, I had the opportunity to experience the "tapping" ceremony
for Omicron Delta Kappa with Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Keith
Moore, who is the adviser for this society.
Omicron Delta Kappa, known as The Circle and ΟΔΚ, is a national leadership honor society in the United States. It was founded December 3, 1914, at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, by 15 student and faculty leaders. Chapters, known as circles, are located on more than 300 college campuses. The society recognizes achievement in the five areas of scholarship; athletics; campus and community service, social or religious activities, and campus government; journalism, speech and the mass media; and creative and performing arts. On some campuses, the local circle of ΟΔΚ can be a quasi-secret society in regard to the way its members are selected and kept secret for a period of time.
Membership in the Omicron Delta Kappa Society is regarded as one of the highest collegiate honors that can be awarded to an individual, along with Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa. In order to be selected as a member of ΟΔΚ , one must be in the top 35 percent of students on their respective campuses and hold a leadership role in one of the five phases of campus life.
Virginia Wesleyan students who were "tapped" for ΟΔΚ are:
Lauren Amos Crystal Lunkin
Ashlee Anderson Trevor Maloney
Courtney Bogan Tiffanie Marine
Tone Boykins Robert "Alex" McComb
Ajee Church Duncan Miller
Joanna Clark Marsha Montgomery
