Dear friends,
Virginia Wesleyan University will be celebrating Earth Day (April 21) all month long with a series of programming following national accolades from the Association for the Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education in the
Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System and the
Arbor Day Foundation. We are proud of the recognition of our institution's ongoing environmental efforts.
In partnership with the City of Virginia Beach and The Gunn Group, we are delighted to elevate and promote our region’s environmental distinctiveness through an annual program that brings environmental authors and activists to the city for an Earth Week celebration that will be held April 17-21. The hallmark Earth Week event, “
Generations Uniting to Address Climate Change," will be held on Friday, April 21, at 1:00 p.m. in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center. A panel of experts from science, policy, and communication backgrounds will discuss the climate crisis’ evolution, impacts and solutions. The symposium is free and open to anyone looking to be inspired by changemakers from across the generations.
There's more to celebrate as senior Geni Roberts leapt his way to another
National Runner-Up finish in the men's long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. In other athletic news, VWU will join the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) to provide additional postseason selections for VWU athletic programs and more opportunities for national play for our Esports team. We honored
Women's History Month through a series of special events, presentations and
messaging, and look forward to welcoming alumni of all ages back to campus for our annual
Spring Alumni Weekend on April 14-16.
Among all this good news, we remain saddened by the passing of Trustee Emerita
Susan T. Beverly, Ed.D., VWU Class of 1972 and recipient of an honorary doctorate in 2021. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on through Susan T. Beverly Hall for the fine arts and the Susan Beverly Grand Terrace and Pond at the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center.
We hope to see many Marlins and friends at Spring Alumni Weekend or our Earth Week events soon.
Sincerely,
