Funded
through the generosity of three donors, construction will begin on
several projects this week on the eastern side of campus between Baker
Road and Smith Drive.
A new, gated Baker Road entrance to the campus will be constructed as well as a road, Marlin Way, connecting the entrance to the Jane P. Batten Student Center parking lot (adjacent to the Everett Tennis Center). The Baker Road entrance will be regularly accessible to faculty/staff using a security code system, and will be open and monitored by security during heavy traffic periods at the athletic complex and Batten Student Center. It will also provide a second, important means of accessing or leaving the campus in case of emergency.
M.S.A., P.C. (engineers), Chesapeake Bay Contractors, and Hourigan Construction are collaborating on the project.
Additionally, the gravel parking area (currently serving Perry and Marlins Fields) off the Batten Student Center roundabout will be paved and a grassy spectator area will be developed on the west side of the new Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center. Eventually, as additional funds are procured, stands will be added to that area as part of our ongoing enhancement of athletic facilities.
Entirely funded by gifts, the eastern side of campus has seen a number of improvements during the past year, including new stands, press box and other amenities at Kenneth R. Perry Field, the addition of decorative fencing along the campus perimeter, and relocation of the Alpine Tower (now situated adjacent to the Trinder Center and Rogers Center). We are grateful to the donors who have made these projects possible.
Working from the Campus Master Plan, we will keep you informed of additional facility projects.
