Nota Bene: Update to COVID-19 Protocol

August 13, 2021

Good afternoon,
We are excited to welcome back our students over the next two weeks and look forward to as normal of a campus experience as safely possible.

We have 100% accounting for vaccinations among faculty and staff with only a handful of medical or religious exemptions, and 98% of our students have submitted proof of vaccination with more coming in every day. You are continuing to do your part to keep our campus safe, and I am proud of the care and consideration you continue to show for our community.

Over the past month, our Emergency Response Team has closely monitored the new Delta variant and its impact on the country and our region. After consultation with state officials, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health, and local epidemiologists, Virginia Wesleyan University has made the decision to return to the requirement of face coverings until guidance and regional conditions suggest otherwise. Effective Monday, August 16, all individuals, even if fully vaccinated, must wear a mask or face covering at all times while indoors on campus. Masks will not be required outdoors if 6’ of physical distance is maintained.

We know this news may disappoint some, especially given that our community has done its part to keep each other safe. However, we also know that this is the most effective way to protect your health and wellbeing at this time. I am grateful for your understanding and flexibility, and for your continued support of the University’s efforts.

As a reminder, our Emergency Response Team has compiled a series of Frequently Asked Questions about what life will look like at VWU during the 2021-22 Academic Year. We ask that you read these FAQs closely, and keep in mind that this information is subject to change. Please check this link often to keep current on any changes in University regulations.
Sincerely,
