Nota Bene: Weekly Update

March 13, 2023

Good morning,
I hope our students and faculty are enjoying a wonderful and relaxing spring break!
Congratulations to senior Geni Roberts, who earned his second National Runner Up finish in the men's long jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship meet in Birmingham, Alabama, over the weekend. Geni jumped a new personal best and school record of 7.36 meters. He went on to finish third in the men's triple jump, earning All-American honors for both events.

We are so proud of Geni's continued success and the spotlight he brings to our track & field program, led by Director of Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Cameia Alexander. Geni has been a model student-athlete, striving for excellence in the classroom and on the field. Congratulations to him on another tremendous indoor season!
ET CETERA
Spring Break means that the end of the spring semester is right around the corner, and so is Commencement. We look forward to celebrating the Class of 2023 on Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m. in TowneBank Arena of the Jane P. Batten Student Center.

Students who wish to participate in the May 2023 Commencement Ceremony must submit their Commencement Fee (which includes the cost of the cap and gown) by Thursday, March 23.

Graduates are also able to purchase the "2023 Graduation T-Shirt and Senior Giving Cord" as a contribution to the Senior Class Gift. As a thank you for participating in the senior class giving campaign, Annie and I are delighted to host graduates for a special event at DeFord Manor during Senior Send-Off week.

Final Four Team Honored by Virginia Beach City Council
As the City of Virginia Beach celebrates 60 years, VWU is delighted to celebrate that we're the only college or university to be here all 60 years and the only NCAA college or university claiming Virginia Beach as our home. We're also the only college or university to bring five NCAA National Championships, 13 final fours, 15 elite eights, and 19 sweet sixteen finishes to Virginia Beach.

Continuing this tradition, we were excited for the VWU 2022 NCAA National Tournament Final Four women's soccer team to be recognized by the Virginia Beach City Council last week.
Save the Date: Day of Giving, March 31
Our spring Day of Giving will be on Friday, March 31. We invite all Marlin alumni, parents, students, and friends to give to the area of the University that is meaningful to them. No gift is too small. Let's make this the biggest year yet!
