Nota Bene: This Weekend at Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Wesleyan is by far the most vibrant campus I’ve experienced in my career. From arts and cultural events to clubs, organizations and athletics, there is always something happening here—and this upcoming weekend is no exception. I invite you to join me this Friday and Saturday as we reunite with old friends and say hello to new, and give back to our community in a variety of ways. The exciting events line-up includes:

Spring Alumni Weekend
On April 7-8, we'll combine old traditions with new as we celebrate our very first Spring Alumni Weekend. Relax and reunite with faculty, friends and Marlin alumni during the 35th Annual Seafood Party in the Dell, featuring music by the Dustin Furlow Duo and the inaugural Scroll Signing ceremony commemorating the 25th graduation anniversary of the Class of 1992. The weekend will also include tours of the nearly completed Greer Environmental Sciences Center, various athletic competitions, and an alumni social on the water at Chick's Oyster Bar. View the full events schedule and register to attend at the
Spring Alumni Weekend webpage.

VWC Day Open House
Excitement is building for the Class of 2021! On Saturday, April 8, we’ll welcome hundreds of prospective Marlins and their family members to campus for the final VWC Day Open House of this academic year. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet with faculty to learn about our academic programs, ask questions about financial aid, admissions, athletics, extracurricular activities, residence life and more. Campus tours, parent and student sessions, an academic department fair, lunch and other activities will round out the day’s agenda. Learn more at

Strike Out Cancer

The Virginia Wesleyan softball program will host its Ninth Annual Strike Out Cancer event here on campus this Saturday, April 8, at 12:30 p.m. In partnership with the American Cancer Society, Strike Out Cancer has raised more than $80,000 to date. This year’s goal is set at $17,587, which would bring the total raised to $100,000. The event will be filled with fun for the entire family, including food, music, activities for all ages, and a silent auction with more than 50 items. Double-headers will be played by both the Marlin softball and baseball teams, and the men's and women's lacrosse teams will play at home also. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased at the gate. Strike Out Cancer is hosted in memory of Head Softball Coach Brandon Elliott’s mother, Elaine F. Sears, who lost her battle with cancer in 2008. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, specifically toward cancer research.

Marlins Make a Difference Day
Organized by the Office of Community Service, this semi-annual day of service will take approximately 60 Marlins into our community on Saturday, April 8, to address social needs in our region. Partners to date include the YWCA of South Hampton Roads, Billy the Kidden Cat Rescue, ForKids Inc., and Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation. Volunteers will enjoy breakfast and lunch together to celebrate volunteerism and share what they’ve learned. Learn more and get involved in the Office of Community Service in the Campus Center/Boyd Dining Center.
