Last week Annie and I had the distinct pleasure of spending an evening
at the College of William and Mary to honor Virginia Wesleyan Board
Treasurer Anne Shumadine as the recipient of the T.C. and Elizabeth
Clarke Medallion. This prestigious award is given annually by the
faculty of the Mason School of Business to an individual whose
distinguished career and contributions to business management represent
the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
Many of
Anne’s family and friends, as well as members of the Virginia Wesleyan
community, attended the March 28 dinner, at which William and Mary
President W. Taylor Reveley III welcomed guests and comments were made
by Lawrence B. Pulley, Dean of the Mason School. A highlight of the
evening was the beautiful remarks offered by Jane Batten, Anne’s
long-time friend and a Trustee Emeritus of the College.
Anne
Shumadine is the Chairman and a Founder of Signature Family Wealth
Advisors, an independent, multi-family office founded in 1994 that is
dedicated to providing sophisticated planning solutions to wealthy
individuals and families.
Anne has been honored, nationally and
across Virginia, as an outstanding legal professional and as an
accomplished advisor to families of wealth. She is extremely active in
the local business community and serves on the board of numerous
non-profit institutions. In addition to serving on Virginia Wesleyan’s
Board, she is currently a Trustee of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and
ACCESS College Foundation, and a member of the Wellesley College
Business Leadership Council. She is a former Rector of the Board of
Visitors of the Eastern Virginia Medical School and Old Dominion
University.
Earlier this month, Anne was celebrated as one of
North America’s foremost leaders in wealth management and chosen as
“Best Multi-Family Office Executive” at the Family Wealth Report
2017 Awards Dinner. In 2014, she was recognized by Junior Achievement of
Hampton Roads in the Business Hall of Fame. She received the Citizen
Lawyer award from the William & Mary School of Law and the Barron F.
Black Community Builder Award from the Hampton Roads Community
Foundation in 2011. She was also recognized in 2011 by LEAD Hampton
Roads with its Visionary Award for business leaders. She is a graduate
of Wellesley College and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College
of William and Mary.
Please join me in congratulating Anne on
this well-deserved award. Virginia Wesleyan is most fortunate to benefit
from Anne’s knowledge and expertise, and we thank her for her
commitment and dedication to the success of our institution.
