We were happy to resume normal campus operations today after the tremendous winter storm that impacted much of our region. I am extremely grateful for our dedicated staff who worked hard to keep our students safe and secure during the storm and in the days that followed.
I commend our Director of Physical Plant Operations Don Coberly and our entire maintenance and grounds crew for their work to clear our campus roads, parking lots and walkways. Wintry conditions of years past prompted us to secure a snow plow mount for one of our existing utility vehicles. Having this plow not only allowed for faster and more efficient clearing of our roads, but it saved valuable resources by eliminating the need for an outside snow removal service. Many thanks, as well, to Hourigan Construction for their assistance in this area. Snow and ice still remain in many places, so please be safe and allow yourselves extra time when driving and walking on campus.
We also appreciate the leadership of Vice President for Student Affairs Keith Moore and Provost and Vice President Tim O'Rourke, and we thank Director of Security Victor Dorsey and our Campus Security officers, Dining Services General Manager Tim Lockett and the food services staff, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Seward and the Jane P. Batten Student Center staff.
I hope you enjoyed the winter weather—despite the inconvenience, it is a beautiful sight to see. University officials will promptly review the events of the storm to further enhance our emergency procedures and operations.
