It is with great sadness that I share the February 8 passing of Rev.
Myrtle Frances Hatcher, Senior Pastor of Main Street United Methodist
Church in Suffolk. Many of you may recall that Rev. Hatcher served on
the Virginia Wesleyan Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2011 while she was
the Peninsula District Superintendent. In recent years, she served as a
member of the Advisory Committee for the University’s Boyd Institute.
A
native of Staunton, Virginia, Rev. Hatcher had been the pastor of Main
Street since 2011. After graduating from Duke Divinity School, she
served at a variety of churches in the Hampton Roads area. She had been
an Elder in the Virginia Conference since 1988 and also served as an
adjunct professor at Paul D. Camp Community College.
She is survived by her husband, John Hatcher. Details regarding her service will be forthcoming.
