Breakfast at DeFord

Energizing breakfast in DeFord Manor this morning with our newest international students hailing from 14 different countries. Sophie Gburek (top left) is from Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, the same hometown as my assistant Anja Serby-Wilkens, with whom she is pictured. Hubert Parawa (bottom left) is from Szczecin, Poland, and transferred to Virginia Wesleyan from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, near where I lived as a teenager. Interesting how different walks of life come together unexpectedly and happily.

Dr. Scott D. Miller is President of Virginia Wesleyan University, Coastal Virginia's premier university of the liberal arts and sciences. Respected as one of the most entrepreneurial higher education executives in America, Dr. Miller is in his 33rd year as a college president. Previously, Dr. Miller was President of Bethany College (2007-15), Wesley College (1997-2007), and Lincoln Memorial University (1991-97). Dr. Miller was also Executive Vice President (1988-91) and Vice President for Development (1984-88) at Lincoln Memorial University and Director of College Relations and Alumni Affairs at Rio Grande College (now University) in Ohio.
