VWU Tree Lighting Celebration

Had fun hanging out with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and some of their favorite elves (Jason Seward '05, Associate Vice President for Campus Life & Operational Management, and Sarah Guzzo, Director of
Student Activities) last night at the annual VWU Tree Lighting Celebration.

A Time of Remembrance

“A Time of Remembrance” brought the campus community together for readings, reflections, music and silence as we process the recent tragedies in Colorado Springs, Charlottesville, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.

Clarke Heritage Society Luncheon

We enjoyed our annual Clarke Heritage Society luncheon for individuals who have arranged for a deferred gift to VWU. It was wonderful to see alumnus Ted Smith and former First Lady of Virginia Wesleyan Alice Clarke. She and her late husband, former VWU President Lambuth Clarke, planted the seeds for the thriving university we are today. I'm also pictured with Board Chair Jon Pruden and Vice Chair Nancy DeFord. Thanks to all who joined us!

Pep Band at VWU Basketball Game

Great to see the pep band, led by adjunct professor and alumnus Cory Franklin, at the basketball game last night.

GNC Board of Directors Meeting

Monthly meeting of the Greater Norfolk Corporation Board of Directors at the Slover Library. I always enjoy the opportunity to visit with other area business leaders to discuss issues critical to our region.

The President's Letter: Do You Hear What I Hear?

Do You Hear What I Hear?
December 2022
Dear friends,

Do you hear what I hear? It's the sound of Marlins everywhere swimming with pride as our women's soccer team heads to the Final Four of the NCAA Division III National Championship. We hope you'll join us tomorrow in Salem, Virginia, or watch online to cheer on the Marlins.

Or maybe it's the sound of applause as our students continue to shine in and out of the classroom. Two students received inaugural “outstanding student” accolades from the Danicas Foundation. The student-led Marlin Business Conference, "Creating Careers for Change," was a true success. Our Esports program, established in 2019, has grown its lineup and its roster, now supporting four games and over 35 competitors. The University was once again recognized for making intentional efforts to increase student voter participation by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, and we honored our country's heroes on Veterans Day.

Or perhaps it's the sound of VWU students on campus and around the world counting the days until another wonderful semester comes to a close. Our fall editions of Virginia Wesleyan University Magazine and Excelsis, a publication of the Batten Honors College, are filled with updates from our busy semester and beyond.

Whatever it is, we hope you enjoy "hearing" all the VWU news.

From our Marlin family to yours, happy holidays!

Sincerely,
