Join Bethany College as we celebrate Black History Month throughout the month of February. Black Alliance, Student Activities Council, and Student Government Association have developed a variety of events that we encourage students to attend. Following is a list of events and dates for Black History Month:
February 10 – 8 p.m. – Academic Parlour – Ric Sheffield – Brown v. Board of Education and Freedom Press. This is a Black Alliance-sponsored event.
February 13 – 6 p.m. – Commencement Hall – A banquet will be held to honor black students who have been successful in academics, athletics and leadership. This event is co-sponsored by SGA and Black Alliance Club.
February 20 – 7 p.m. – Renner Too – A Martin Luther King, Jr., speaker will be reenacting MLK in some of his historical moments. Along with the speaker, the group 1NE Ministry will be performing songs that were associated with religion and civil rights. This is a co-sponsored event by SAC and Black Alliance Club.
February 23 – 7 p.m. – Academic Parlour – William McDaniels, "African American Music and its Effect on American Culture." This is a Black Alliance- sponsored event.
February 25 – 8 p.m. – Academic Parlour – Eric Holmes, Commander for Zone 2 in the Pittsburgh Police Department, and a motivational speaker, will be sharing his thoughts on dedication, hard work, and attaining goals. This event is sponsored by SAC.
February 27 – "Dear White People," film, will be shown at Relay For Life. This is sponsored by Black Alliance Club.
