Thank you to all for your patience as we weathered the weekend snow
storm and the icy conditions that blanketed our campus and the
surrounding area. Virginia Wesleyan will re-open today, Wednesday,
January 11, and all College operations will return to normal.
I’d
like to call attention to a very special group of VWC students who
during the storm truly embraced our Wesleyan heritage and what it means
to be Marlins. Several students sprang into action in the Boyd Dining
Center Saturday evening helping to clean up after a long day with very
limited staff. Their selflessness and eagerness to lend a helping hand
speaks volumes of their fine characters. To Andreas Combos, Ryan
Fitzgibbons, Andrew Freeman, Tabitha Lowell, Lydia O'Connor, Laura
Robusto, Katie Staman, and Luke Wentling—we thank you.
Thanks
also to our dedicated staff who worked to keep our students safe and our
greater community informed and to those who maintained campus
operations during the storm and its aftermath.
Though the College
will resume normal operations today, I echo the sentiments conveyed in
an earlier email from Provost and Vice President Dr. Timothy O’Rourke.
Because some ice and snow remains and road conditions vary across the
area, please continue to exercise caution when traveling to and from
Virginia Wesleyan and while walking around campus. In the event that you
feel it is not safe to travel to campus from your location, please stay
home, email your supervisor or faculty member about your situation, and
be safe.
Thank you again for your understanding. College
officials have already begun to review the weekend’s events in effort to
further enhance our emergency procedures and operations. Please feel
free to contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
