Homecoming Golf Tournament
A record 228 golfers participated in the annual Homecoming Golf Tournament today at Stumpy Lake Golf Course in Virginia Beach to benefit Virginia Wesleyan University baseball, softball and lacrosse. Happy Homecoming!
With temperatures expected to be in the 80s, this year’s Homecoming and Family Weekend forecast is looking sunny and bright. Festivities began earlier this week with Marlin Spirit Day and Wesleyan Wednesday, and the fun continues today and into the weekend.
Our events lineup includes the Homecoming Parade, a meeting of the President's Parents Roundtable, a Performing Arts Showcase, the Friday Night Flights Alumni Social, dedication of the Betty S. Rogers Track and Field Center, the annual Homecoming Tailgate, a first-ever Chili Cook-off, alumni and varsity athletic games, tours of the Greer Environmental Sciences Center, a ceremony dedicating a tree to the Class of 2017 Senior Class Gift, an interdenominational worship service, and more.

Early Morning Alma Mater
Started the day off on a great note as members of the Virginia Wesleyan University Cross Country / Track and Field team sang me the Alma Mater on my early morning drive into campus.
Learning About Predators and Prey
Many thanks to Professor Hilve Firek for sharing this photo of Professor Vic Townsend leading a hands-on predation lab for Tidewater Collegiate Academy students today. Dr. Townsend set up the lab with skulls, insects, and spiders, and everyone had a blast learning about predators and prey!
Tianna Garland '16 Named CoVa Biz Millennial on the Move
We are so proud of 2016 Virginia Wesleyan University graduate Tianna Garland on being named a 2017 Millennial on the Move by CoVa Biz Magazine! Tianna majored in business at VWU and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, the women's lacrosse team, and the Student Government Association. She also managed our on-campus Homeless Shelter for three years. These days she is a retirement plan services associate at Dixon Hughes Goodman. opening NBA preseason game at the Boston Garden earlier this week.
Marlin basketball coach Dave Macedo and Rodney Young '07 made the trip
to Boston for the special occasion.

In the October issue of Enrollment Manager, Dwyer Education Strategies highlights our institution in its cover story, “The Commonwealth is Witnessing a Transformation at Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach.”
The article chronicles the successes we’ve achieved on campus in the
last 24 months, including academic expansion and restructuring, new
buildings and infrastructure, athletic enhancements and success, and
enrollment growth.
“Major transformations of higher education institutions, although rare, certainly are not new,” the article reads. “This newsletter has reported on several colleges and universities over the last 13 years that have made amazing progress turning around downward trends. The recent outcomes at Virginia Wesleyan University are unique in both the breadth of positive change and success achieved during an exceptionally short period of time.”
When I slow down and reflect on what we have accomplished here at Virginia Wesleyan in the last two years, I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude. I want to congratulate each of you—our Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, students, alumni, and dear friends of the institution. Your continued commitment is inspirational to me, and I assure you that your efforts are significantly appreciated.
