Feminist Majority Foundation at VWU

Kudos to the Feminist Majority Foundation at VWU, one of our engaged student groups, for taking an active role in the VWU Marlins Vote initiative and embracing their civic duty. Proud to support them. Pictured (from left) in the Jane P. Batten Student Center with Isabella Glaze, Shai Russell, Ryan Westpfahl, Monique Ayers. Keep up the good work!

Major Community Initiative Announcement

Today I had the pleasure of attending the Major Community Initiative Announcement at Sentara Heart Hospital. Sentara Healthcare and Optima Health, in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, announced a $100 million investment to address social determinants of health in underserved communities across Virginia. Many thanks to President and CEO of Sentara Healthcare Howard Kern, a VWU Trustee, for hosting this memorable event. We continue to be proud of our strong campus partnership with Sentara. I enjoyed Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's remarks and visiting with many good friends and leaders from across the Commonwealth, including former VWU Trustee Bob Aston, CEO of TowneBank. Read more about the announcement here.

Visit with Judge Bray of the Beazley Foundation

It was a pleasure visiting with Judge Richard Bray, President of the Beazley Foundation. Of the many areas of Virginia Wesleyan that the Foundation has funded over the years, the latest support has made possible significant upgrades to technology. Pictured (above) in the Beazley Foundation Technology Center with Judge Bray and members of our IT team—Chris Davis (Chief Information Officer) and Marcia Williams (Information Security Officer); (lower left) in the Beazley Foundation Foyer of Godwin Hall with Judge Bray; and (lower right) exploring the eSports Arena with Chris and Judge Bray.

Tribute to Virginia Wesleyan's Founding

Homecoming is a time that we reflect on the history of our great University. As I walked to the Dominion Enterprises Building this morning for the Greater Norfolk Corporation Board of Directors meeting, I came across this tribute to our founding on the new Glass Light Hotel and Gallery in downtown Norfolk. President to President: Building an Innovation Culture in Higher Education

The second chapter is now available for the 2019-2020 President to President series, a thought leadership publication written by university presidents, and edited by myself and longtime friend and colleague Dr. Marylouise Fennell.

In "Building an Innovation Culture in Higher Education," Dakota Wesleyan University President Dr. Amy Novak describes her institution’s commitment to innovation and how it transformed the campus culture. She shares tips on how colleges can use a clear, practical process to promote innovation and evolve to the next phase in higher education.
