I am delighted to share that the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) President’s Council has approved Averett University as a full-time conference member. Located in Danville, Virginia, and initially founded in 1859 as a Baptist women’s college, Averett became a four-year, coeducational institution in 1969. The Averett Cougars previously competed in the USA South Athletic Conference.
The Cougars will officially become an ODAC member on July 1, 2022, and begin active league participation in the 2022-23 academic year. Many of VWU’s intercollegiate athletic programs already compete against Averett. We looked forward to meeting Averett in conference play in the 2022-23 season.
Averett is filling the member seat vacated by Emory & Henry College. E&H announced its intention to become a NCAA Division II institution in the South Atlantic Conference late last year.
