Nota Bene: Bringing Wesleyan to the World through Winter Session Travel

We are again bringing Virginia Wesleyan University to the world this January through Winter Session travel experiences. As I write this, 57 students and eight faculty members are traveling throughout Israel, Costa Rica, Germany, and Hawaii, studying major world religions, conducting field research on neotropical ecosystems, examining Berlin's past through its present, and exploring the impact of adventure tourism on the environment, culture, and economy.

I am also pleased to share that for the first time in University history, two of our students are taking courses on Japanese language and culture at Rikkyo University in Tokyo. Follow their journeys as they try their hands at Japanese calligraphy and experience a Japanese homestay by
reading their blogs.

For more information on short-term study-away courses, semester-long programs, and VWU course grants through The Lighthouse: Center for Exploration & Discovery, visit the
Study Away Program website or contact Mandy Reinig, Director of the Study Away Program.

International experiences are an important component of a comprehensive liberal arts education, and I am grateful to all those who have made these travels possible. We look forward to hearing about these students’ adventures upon their safe return.
