Nota Bene: State of the Region

October 16, 2015

I recently attended the Sixteenth Annual State of the Region Address. Approximately 1,000 business and corporate leaders gathered for this year's breakfast at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.

LEAD Hampton Roads collaborates with Dr. James V. Koch (President Emeritus and Professor of Economics at Old Dominion University), Dr. Vinod Agarwal (ODU Professor of Economics), Dr. Tim Komarek (ODU Assistant Professor of Economics) and the ODU Economic Forecasting Project Research Team in presenting this annual event which provides the business community the opportunity to gather and discuss critical issues that impact our quality of life in the region.

A number of Virginia Wesleyanites who "believe in Hampton Roads and the power of rational discussion to improve circumstances" provided financial support for the study, including Jane Batten, Anne B. Shumadine, and The Aimee and Frank J. Batten, Jr. Foundation.

Please note that all 16 of the State of the Region reports are available at http://www.stateoftheregionreport.com.

The sponsor of the event pledged a presentation and discussion on the regional economy that is informative, engaging and useful. I heard several "takeaways" that are relevant as we plan future growth initiatives. If you’d prefer to read summaries rather than the full report, the following links provide good information.
