Former Bethany President & DOC Scholar to Speak at Wreath Laying March 5

Former Bethany College President and Disciples of Christ Scholar Dr. D. Duane Cummins will be the speaker for the wreath laying at Campbell Cemetery (also known as God’s Acre) as a part of Bethany College’s 175th Founder’s Day on March 5. The wreath laying will immediately follow lunch.

Campbell Cemetery is located across from Campbell Mansion and the Historic Bethany Visitors Center on Main Street. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Old Meeting House on Main Street.

Dr. Cummins has been Visiting Scholar in American History at Johns Hopkins University since 2002. He is President Emeritus of Bethany College, past President of the Division of Higher Education, and past Moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is a former Darbeth-Whitten Professor of American History at Oklahoma City University and former interim president of Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University and of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society. Dr. Cummins has authored or edited multiple books on both Disciples history as well as American history and is a frequent lecturer at colleges, and in regions and congregations across the nation. His most recent book is “Bethany College: A Liberal Arts Odyssey.”
