Legendary Football Coach Jim Tressel to Speak at Bethany’s Spring Athletic Banquet

Good morning,

I am pleased to announce that Jim Tressel, President of Youngstown State University and an iconic figure in college sports in Ohio, will be the featured speaker for Bethany’s Athletic Banquet (sponsored by the Student Athletic Advisory Council) on May 5.

Mr. Tressel was named President of YSU in 2014 after serving as Executive Vice President at the University of Akron. Before that, he had a storied career as head football coach at both YSU (1986-2000) and The Ohio State University (2001-2011). He has won 5 National Championships between the two schools, and was recently elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

A graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, he played quarterback while his father was head coach. He graduated from Baldwin-Wallace in 1975 with a degree in education. He earned his master’s degree in education at The University of Akron, where he was also a graduate assistant and helped coach the quarterbacks, receivers, and running backs.

I would also like to thank Bethanian Jim Greene ‘63, a Trustee at YSU, for his assistance in scheduling President Tressel.
